An introductory post for my tiny by mighty matchboxes.
I think meaningful matchboxes might actually be a better description… You'll see why...
So, they are in fact, quite a few years in the making, if you count all the brainstorming and trial and error with the right materials. I found the perfect paper to print on, with a similar quality to newspaper or blotting paper and then couldn’t source anymore anywhere! Thankfully I did and the vision I had in my head is coming to life.
As I’m sure you can imagine, they take quite a long time to put together. All the patterns went through several design iterations, the font is uniquely mine and isn't automated so it's taken an unreasonable amount of time to put together all the text!
I have quotes or words or at the very least a single letter on the back, sides and internal sides and as per usual, have been disjointed in deciding which go with what!
Here is one, finished matchbox complete with its treasure, a tiny concertina artwork. Art in another piece of art. I say finished but I've not entirely decided which artwork goes with which box so I'll be coming back for another post on that soon!
For now, I'll leave you with a snippet of the concertina's that are mostly finished...
