A spur of the moment decision last friday led us to book a cheap room near the train station and jump on the train Saturday morning to Bordeaux. We were there by lunchtime and returned Sunday evening.
We had the most glorious weather, the girls played in the Miroir d’eau, an enormous water feature on the edge of the river and we idulged ourselves in the many incredible vegan and vegetarian restaurants and cafes that Bordeaux had to offer. Of course our first stop for lunch had to be at an Indian restaurant, our town just doesn't have anywhere that does a decent curry and Bordeaux seems to be overflowing with choice, (comparatively!).

We wandered in and out of beautiful shops and cooled down with gelato. On Sunday we hired bikes and rode up and down the river, stopping at Les Halles de Bacalan for takeaway lunch. It was divine and we could have eaten everything there!
The Jardin Public is now one of my favourite parks, although I didn't take any photos as we were on the bikes, only one of the cutest little carousel. You’ll learn soon enough of my obsession with carousels!

Finally, I find it more and more difficult to enjoy trips away or holidays. The extreme pain that so many people are experiencing in their lives leaves me with a deep sense of guilt.
I am trying to find ways that I can help, to keep not looking away but also to enjoy this time with my precious family. Because the one thing that the news highlights every single day, is that life is fleeting.
